Multiple wh-constructions and their kin: 'from two to three', 25-26 Novembre 2019

image workshop LLANG Wh-words appear in various constructions within and across languages (e.g., interrogatives, headed and free relative clauses, modal existential constructions, correlatives, clefts), raising the question of how their denotation varies and relates across these constructions. Building on the workshop held in September 2018, this follow-up meeting investigates the semantics of various multiple wh- constructions with (i) two and more wh-words or (ii) two wh-words plus a quantifier. OASIS 2 conference, October 16-18, 2019

logo CNRS OASIS is an international research network based on the idea that there is a formal semantic ontology whose precise characterization is still to be discovered, not only through methods of model-theoretic semantics, but also through syntactic theory and cognitive psychology (the "interfaces with semantics").
OASIS 2 is an interdisciplinary conference on formal semantic ontology in natural language, as it is structured by both grammar and cognition and will be held in Nantes on October 16-18 2019.

The Language Faculty 2019: Linguistics and the Brain Sciences - Nantes, June 21, 2019

Logo UN The Language Faculty is an international network of scholars interested in human language that meets once a year at the Université de Nantes. The first meeting was held on 2 June 2017. The network is dedicated at promoting research in formal linguistics and the biological basis of human language in the language departments of French universities. It operates in tight connection with the international research community.
The 2019 instalment of the Language Faculty is organised as part of the "Journées scientifiques" of the University of Nantes. It will explore the research agenda for linguistic inquiry beyond the traditional frontiers of humanities. More information

Conference "Theoretical and Formal Linguistics" – Nantes, June 11, 2019

The Laboratoire de Linguistique de Nantes (LLING UMR 6310 CNRS – Université de Nantes) is pleased to announce the first linguistics research student conference “Theoretical and Formal Linguistics – Nantes (TFL-Nantes)” which will take place on June 11, 2019 at the University of Nantes (France). The aim of TFL-Nantes is to provide students with the opportunity to present their research and to receive feedback as well as to promote discussion and collaboration among linguists. This conference is organized by PhD students of LLING with the support of l’Ecole Doctorale ELLIC (Education, Langages, Interactions, Cognition, Clinique). We are inviting proposals for presentations from research students working on theoretical morphology, phonology, semantics and syntax within the framework of generative grammar. Conference "Multilingualism and Otherness", May 10, 2019

Logo LLING This conference will focus on the place and the perception of multilingualism in predominantly monolingual communities. If such people as Grégoire or Arthur Schlesinger Jr. are right in saying that the language makes the people, are multilingual bound to drift from community to communitarianism? To what extent is multilingualism still perceived as a threat to individual or academic wellbeing and/or national cohesion? How do multilingual speakers manage their identities and languages in monolingual settings? And how can linguists working on those issues better convey their findings to the public?
Deadline for submissions: January 31, 2019 More information
